MGC Asian Traditional Textiles Museum to Showcase Khmer Traditional Attire in New Exhibition

Takeo: The MGC Asian Traditional Textiles Museum, under the auspices of the APSARA National Authority, is set to launch a captivating six-month exhibition featuring traditional Khmer garments from the residents of Prey Kabas district in Takeo province. This unique showcase, aimed at both the public and tourists, offers an in-depth look into the rich heritage of old Khmer handicrafts.

Mr. Sen Kimsun, the Acting Deputy Director of the museum, announced that the exhibition, starting on February 9, 2024, will display a collection of 21 meticulously chosen shirts from a larger donation. This donation, generously provided by the people of Prey Kabas, comprises 51 items, including skirts, shirts, and fabrics. The museum's team undertook a visit to collect these items on May 18, 2023, subsequently registering them for conservation, cleaning, and repair in preparation for the public exhibition.

Highlighting the historical significance of the collection, some pieces, such as handkerchiefs, date back 40 to 60 years and have been preserved through the turbulent times of the Khmer Rouge era.

This exhibition marks the first phase of showcasing the traditional textiles, where 21 out of the 51 donated items will be on display, with plans to exhibit the remaining items at a later date. Mr. Sen Kimsun extends an invitation to the public to explore this significant exhibition, which serves not only as a celebration of the traditional art forms of Prey Kabas but also as an educational journey into the cultural fabric of Takeo province.
